MEET RAbbi LAZER & RIVKY!
Lazer and Rivky Hershkovich host meaningful Jewish experiences in their home together with their two adorable girls & baby boy, Malka, Chaya and Shmulik. Their door is always open for a heart to heart schmooze, a bowl of chicken soup, or a soul-nourishing Torah class.
Lazer was born and raised in Des Plaines, IL in a home with an open-door policy. He went on to study in France and completed Rabbinic internships in Germany and Morroco. His passions include soulful music, being a non-snobby foodie, and making people feel good about themselves.
Rivky was born and raised in London and studied abroad in Melbourne, Australia. She then directed a summer camp in Bucks County, PA, and was a lead teacher in a prestigious school in London for five years. Her passions include working with kids, giving people a good time, and sounding impossibly intelligent with her British accent.
MISSION & values
Chabad Cares is a community where Jews of all backgrounds can feel at home to connect with their heritage meaningfully. This includes Shabbat dinners, volunteering, and lifecycle events. We are also passionate about addressing the needs of the most vulnerable in our community. Whether someone is stranded at an airport without access to kosher food or hospitalized over a weekend without Shabbat candles, we are ready with a smile to provide for those in need.
how it all started
In 2010, Lazer wondered if the needs of the most vulnerable in his community were being addressed. This drove him to launch a network of volunteers on call whenever the demand arose. In 2016, Rivky, joined the organization as co-director, setting in motion the rapid growth it has experienced since then. Chabad Cares is now emerging as an organization providing a full range of services and not only in case of emergency.
